NBA on Christmas Day 🏀

Champagnie Showers, Luka Magic & The King on Christmas

San Antonio Spurs @ New York Knicks

The New York Knicks allow the most points to opposition Small Forwards (SF) in the NBA, additionally, they also concede the 4th most three-pointers to SF’s in the league. So, who stands out for the San Antonio Spurs at their SF position?

Well, veteran Harrison Barnes was scoreless last game but averages 10.6 points this season across 29 games. Keldon Johnson seems to be regressing this season as he adjusts to finding himself in the unfamiliar role of coming off the bench, Johnson is averaging 12.2 points this year across 26 games played, averaging 25.2 minutes a game. That leaves Julian Champagnie. Which has the potential to be quite fitting on Christmas Day.

Champagnie is now into his third season in the NBA.

  • 22/23 - 15 games played, 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 2.2 three-pointers (41%)

  • 23/24 - 74 games played, 6.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 three-pointers (36%)

  • 24/25 - 29 games played, 12.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 2.6 three-pointers (36%)

Given the positional match-up being very favourable and the fact he’s probably the best three-point shooter out of the Spurs’ options at SF, I think Julian Champagnie could surpass his 7.5 points line with relative ease. However, given it’s Christmas let’s try and climb to the top of the tree and hope he repeats his 4th-quarter-performance vs the 76ers from the other night, just a little bit earlier please King Julian. He shot 5/10 from 3 point distance which were the only shots he took all night, all 5 of his made threes came in the 4th-quarter where he played all 12 minutes as the Spurs looked to make a comeback vs. Philadelphia. Johnson played only 7 minutes and took 1 shot in the 4th whilst Barnes didn’t touch the court at all as the game came to an end.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Dallas Mavericks

The Timberwolves are an absolute mess currently, in fact they’re quite topical! They’re dysfunctional, don’t really like each other and would rather be anywhere else. Like me visiting family over the festive period!

There’s no real bet that stands out currently here, however, Luka Doncic to record a triple double is a bet that always gives you a run for your money. The Slovenian is currently listed probable to play, the bet will voided if he doesn’t play.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Golden State Warriors

The Los Angeles Lakers currently occupy 7th place in the Western Conference with a 16-13 record, their opponents Stephen Curry and The Golden State Warriors are hot on their heels in 8th with a 15-13 record. JJ Redick’s first job as a head-coach has been a bit topsy-turvy, his Lakers side have been putting a string of consecutive victories together and then seemingly forgetting how to play the sport of basketball a week later.

Meanwhile, Steve Kerr and his Warriors side started off the season in fine form with a 12-3 record after 15 games, since then they’ve only managed to win 3 of their next 13 matches. The Warriors have traded for Dennis Schroder in an attempt to turn their fortunes around as they make a push for a play-off spot in the latter stages of the season.

The evergreen LeBron James returned from a brief injury lay-off last week and has looked to be gradually getting back to his best, in the last 2 games especially

  • VS. DET Pistons: 28 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists

The self-proclaimed King James is an ego-maniac, why wouldn’t he want to record a triple-double on Christmas Day aged 39? It just makes sense.
