Blackpool vs Cardiff, English Championship, Friday 7th April, 15:00.

Best Bet: 20+ Booking Points Each Team @ 2.15 (23/20) - William Hill - Build #YourOdds

Although these sides don’t rank particularly high in any of the statistical categories for fouls or yellow cards per game, I think the game state and the importance of 3 points for both sides should play a big part here. Cardiff are in 21st with 39 points (38 games played) and Blackpool are 23rd with 35 points (39 games played). A few meaty tackles on Good Friday please!

William Hill: Build #YourOdds > Total Booking Points > Blackpool Over 19.5 > Cardiff Over 19.5 > Add To Bet Slip.

These two sides met in December and both teams received 3 yellow cards each, the referee that day was Josh Smith, who takes charge of the same fixture again on Friday.

Strangely these sides are 1st (Blackpool, 9) & 2nd (Cardiff, 5) for red cards in The Championship this season despite ranking so low for yellow cards.

QPR vs Preston, English Championship, Friday 7th April, 15:00

Bet: Thomas Cannon To Score Anytime @ 4.60 (18/5) - William Hill

Since joining Preston on loan from Everton in January, Thomas Cannon has scored 4 championship goals in 13 appearances. Not overly impressive at first glance but he’s scored 3 in his last 4 games and all 4 have been in his last 7 games. Preston travels to a QPR side who have only won once in 2023, their recently appointed manager Gareth Ainsworth may have to get back to the drawing board and find another way to motivate his squad after this didn’t work. Under Ainsworth:

  • Played: 6 - Won 1 & Lost 5

  • 4 of their losses to potential relegation rivals in Birmingham, Blackpool, Rotherham and Wigan.

  • Conceded 14.

Despite their 1-0 win over Watford, it looks like Ainsworth has got his hands full with the QPR squad. They’ve conceded 14 in his 6 games with 6 of those coming against Blackpool who Preston dispatched with relative ease last weekend 3-1. Preston has an outside chance of sneaking in the playoffs and I don’t understand how QPR are favourites (13/10) vs Preston (23/10) given the two sides contrasting runs of form. Thomas Cannon is 4.60 (18/5) to score anytime with William Hill. I’ll also be having a dabble on Preston to Win & Cannon to score anytime at 9.50 (17/2) via William Hill’s #BuildYourOdds

Tottenham vs Brighton, English Premier League, Saturday 8th April, 15:00.

Bet: Moises Caicedo To Be Booked @ 6.00 (5/1) - Bet365.

Brighton can close the gap on their opponents to a single point whilst keeping their two games in hand cushion if they beat Tottenham this weekend. The Seagulls had a scare in their 2-0 victory over Bournemouth with star players Moises Caicedo & Alexis MacAllister both coming off with slight injuries. However, both are available for selection against Spurs and should start.

Ecuadorian central midfielder Moises Caicedo in the Premier League this season:

  • 8 yellow cards

  • 49 fouls

  • 77 tackles

Caicedo will serve a two-game suspension if he reaches 10 yellow cards before Brighton’s 33rd Premier League game (6 PL games away) and looking at their upcoming fixtures, it would make some sort of sense for Caicedo to be booked vs Spurs and Chelsea which would rule him out of Brighton’s games against Notts Forest & Wolves and he’d be back from suspension for Man Utd’s visit to the Amex Stadium. He’s 6.00 (5/1) to be booked vs Tottenham this Saturday on Bet365.

Leeds vs Crystal Palace, English Premier League, Sunday 9th April, 14:00.

Bet: Over 2 Cards For Each Team @ 6.00 (5/1) - Bet365

Everything points towards there being cards in this fixture, except maybe the referee. Simon Hooper isn’t the greatest for card betting and can be frustrating with how lenient/inconsistent he can be in getting his cards out of his pocket. With that in mind, I’m taking a stab at lower stakes, higher odds punt rather than the standard 2 cards each, I’ll be dabbling on 3 each.

  • Palace have the 2nd worst discipline in PL, 66 yellows & 3 reds

  • Leeds have the 5th worst discipline in PL, 61 yellows & 2 reds

  • Leeds commit the most fouls pg in PL (12.3)

  • Palace commit the second most fouls pg in PL (12.1)

  • Palace are the most fouled team in the PL pg (12.6)

  • Leeds are the 5th most fouled team in the PL pg (11.1)

Although Hooper isn’t the ideal appointment, when officiating Leeds twice this season he’s shown them 8 yellow cards and their opponents 4 yellow cards. When refereeing Palace, he’s shown them 5 yellow cards and their opponents 5 yellow cards across the 2 games.

Games Simon Hooper has officiated including either Leeds or Palace this season:

30/08/2022 - Crystal Palace vs Brentford - Fouls (11-8) Yellow Cards (1-2)
22/10/2022 - Everton vs Crystal Palace - Fouls (16-14) Yellow Cards (3-4)
31/12/2022 - Newcastle vs Leeds - Fouls (13-19) Yellow Cards (3-5)
08/02/2023 - Man Utd vs Leeds - Fouls (7-11) Yellow Cards (1-3)
