League 1 & 2 Final Day Bets

May Langstaff Score Goals ⚽️

The final day of the season can be a bit of a minefield at times when it comes to betting, I tend to stick with teams or players who have motivation for success whether that be avoiding relegation, promotion or the race for top goalscorer. Usually results in the mid-table clash with absolutely nothing to play for ending up 5-4 and you think what’s the point in it all?

Alfie May and Colby Bishop will be battling it out for the League 1 Top Goalscorer gong with May (23) likely to win the race over Bishop (21).

League 2 Top Goalscorer is all but wrapped up with Macauley Langstaff (28) well clear of both Paul Mullin & Matt Smith (24). Langstaff may have motivation to reach 30 league goals in his first season in the EFL whether that be contractual incentives or just personal achievements. Something to stick on the fridge and show the grandchildren. A goal bonus is probably more likely to motivate the prolific goal-getter though I’d imagine!

League One:

  • Derby vs Carlisle: Derby need at least 1 point to seal promotion back to The Championship playing an already relegated Carlisle side.

  • Bolton vs Peterborough: Both are assured of a play-off spot with an outside chance of Bolton getting top 2 if Derby slip up and there’s a decent goal swing. Potential warm-up of the play-off final.

  • Barnsley and Lincoln are in the driving-seat for the final 2 play-off places. However, Oxford and Blackpool are waiting in the wings if they fail to get out of first gear.

  • Carlisle, Port Vale and Fleetwood are already relegated. Cheltenham are the bookies favourites to join the trio in League 2 next season. Burton and Cambridge are the other two possible teams for the drop into the fourth-tier.

League Two:

  • Stockport, Wrexham and Mansfield will be plying their trades in League 1 next campaign.

  • MK Dons are currently the only team guaranteed play-off football. There are 6 teams fighting it out for the final 3 places.

  • Doncaster and Crewe are heavy favourites to secure their spots. Doncaster looking to continue their incredible winning run with their momentum carrying them over the line.

  • Walsall although mathematically possible to find their way into the Top 7, you’d imagine there’s more chance of Madeline McCann showing up at her parents door tomorrow morning.

  • Bradford and Crawley will be relying on results elsewhere with their fate out of their hands at this point. Barrow face Mansfield which probably sees the most likely outcome being that either Barrow or Crawley take the final play-off spot.

  • Forest Green are already relegated and Sutton United have all but joined them. Colchester are the only other team facing the drop, however, they face a Crewe side where a draw could guarantee survival for Colchester and play-offs for Crewe…

Right then, bets.

💰 Punt: Macaulay Langstaff Anytime Goalscorer & To Score 2 or More
📗 Bookie: Bet365
🎲 Odds: 2.37 (11/8) & 8.00 (7/1)
⚽️ Game: Forest Green vs. Notts County

As mentioned above, Langstaff is 2 goals shy of reaching 30 for the season and his Notts County side travel to an already relegated Forest Green. With both sides already having their fate sealed, we should hopefully see a very open attacking game. Notts County have the second-best attack in the league (89 goals scored) and the worst defence (85 goals conceded). So, why change anything now?

Punts: Macaulay Langstaff to score anytime @ 2.37 (11/8) with Bet365 and for Langstaff To Score 2 or More with the same firm @ 8.00 (7/1).

💰 Punt: Aaron Rowe Over 1.5 Shots & Over 2.5 Shots
📗 Bookie: Bet365
🎲 Odds: 2.75 (7/4) & 7.00 (6/1)
⚽️ Game: Colchester vs. Crewe

Colchester vs. Crewe is Sky Sports’ choice of coverage for the final day in League Two. There’ll be a lot of people tipping the draw and rightly so with the benefits it will have for both teams. However, I like the look of Aaron Rowe shots at the prices on offer.

Rowe is averaging 2.2 shots per 90 minutes played for Crewe in League 2 this term. He’s played a total of 2055 minutes during 37 appearances. He’s registered 2+ shots in his last 3 starts and has hit 3+ shots in 2 of those 3.

Aaron Rowe Over 1.5 Shots @ 2.75 (7/4) - Bet365
Aaron Rowe Over 2.5 Shots @ 7.00 (6/1) - Bet365

💰 Punt: Alfie May To Score Anytime & To Score 2 or More
📗 Bookie: Bet365
🎲 Odds: 2.75 (7/4) & 11.00 (10/1)
⚽️ Game: Wycombe vs. Charlton

Similar reasoning to Langstaff bet above. May is sitting pretty on 23 goals but his competition is within touching distance so a goal or two should do the trick. This will be Wycombe’s 6th game since the 10th May whereas it’ll only be Charlton’s 4th, this could lead to tired legs becoming a factor and hopefully a very end-to-end game. Both sides are in no mans land and will be in the same division again next season.

Alfie May To Score Anytime @ 2.75 (7/4) - Bet365
Alfie May To Score 2 or More @ 11.00 (10/1) - Bet365
