Keep Punting: Luton vs. AFC Wimbledon

I’ll be sharing bets in a telegram channel linked below if you’re interested, ahead of the new season getting underway. Weekly, monthly and annual plans are available.

After an extremely tedious 62 days since PSG took Inter Milan to the cleaners, proper football makes a return as Luton entertain AFC Wimbledon in the EFL’s curtain-raiser as the 2025/26 campaign gets underway. Both sides enter League 1 from opposite ends of the football pyramid as Luton were the relegation fodder of The Championship whilst AFC Wimbledon were promoted via the League Two play-offs with a 1-0 victory over Walsall at Wembley.

💰 Punt: Marcus Browne Over 2.5 Shots
📗 Bookie: Bet365
🎲 Odds: 2.75 (7/4)
⚽️ Game: Luton vs. AFC Wimbledon

Marcus Browne averages 2.9 shots per 90 minutes across the course of his career including his time at Oxford & Middlesbrough. Last season, Browne averaged 2.7 shots per game and 4.2 shots per 90 for Wimbledon albeit in League Two. Browne has previous experience in League One with Oxford and his shooting stats from those seasons are as follows:

  • 2019/20 - 3.4 shots per90 (14 appearances)

  • 2021/22 - 3.7 shots per90 (5 appearances)

  • 2022/23 - 2.7 shots per90 (34 appearances)

  • 2023/24 - 1.7 shots per90 (14 appearances)

Punt: Marcus Browne Over 2.5 Shots @ 2.75 (7/4) - Bet365
With Sub On Play On being available it’s worth chancing Marcus Browne Over 3.5 shots @ 6.00 (5/1) as well.

The only negative aspect regarding Browne is the fact he missed Wimbledon’s last couple of pre-season friendlies due to injury. After a disappointing performance vs. Southend United last weekend, Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson had this to say regarding the trip to Luton. "Hopefully we’ll have a couple back by then - Joe Lewis and Marcus Browne - which would make a difference. Marcus picked up a knock. He hasn’t trained this week, but he did some light work with our Sports Scientist Chris McConnell on Friday. I thought it wasn’t worth risking him in the friendly, as I need him hopefully on the training pitch for the early part of next week to have a chance going into Luton, I didn’t want to take a risk with him.”

The gaffer wasn’t giving anything away as in last night’s match preview interview, he had this to say on the fitness of Joe Lewis and Marcus Browne… “It’s good to have them back out here today, Joe has had a shin issue that’s niggled away at him but he’s looked good the last couple of days, as has Browney. They’re big players for us and a massive part of what we do - it’s important that we keep them fit.”

Despite the manager not being too open regarding whether he’s fit enough to start, it’s worth taking the bet at current odds of 2.75 (7/4) - the bet will void on Bet365 if the former West Ham academy graduate isn’t deemed fit enough to play from the off.
