Friday Night Football: Luton vs. West Brom
McGuinness Won't Be Goalless Furlong
Friday Night Football sees Luton welcome West Bromwich Albion to Kenilworth Road under the lights. Luton have struggled massively since their relegation from the Premier League last year, they currently sit 22nd in the league on 11 points. Rob Edwards’ side have only won 3 of their 12 games since returning to The Championship. West Brom meanwhile are sitting pretty in 5th place on 20 points. However, it’s not all hunky dory for The Baggies. Carlos Corberan’s side are winless in their last 6 games, failing to score in 4 of those 6.

⚽️ Game: Luton vs. West Brom
West Brom are averaging 12.9 shots per game, this figure decreases to 11.5 shots per game when playing away from The Hawthorns. On the other hand, Luton are conceding an average of 13.5 shots per game, this figure decreases to 11.7 shots per game when playing at Kenilworth Road.

Darnell Furlong has seen an uptick in efforts on goal in recent weeks, he’s had 11 shots in his last 6 games.
Sheffield Wednesday - 1 shot
Middlesbrough - 0 shots
Millwall - 4 shots
Oxford - 1 shot
Blackburn - 1 shot
Cardiff - 4 shots
The Baggies' captain has had 14 shots overall in the league this year (1.2pg), with half of those coming with his head. He’s a threat from set-pieces and due to injuries, he’ll likely be a main target. As you can see above, he can be very streaky but due to the absence of Semi Ajayi and Paddy McNair, I think it’s worth chancing 2+ & 3+ shots from Furlong at the odds on offer with SkyBet.

⚽️ Game: Luton vs. West Bromwich Albion
Carlos Corberan is very short-handed in central defence after losing both Paddy McNair and Semi Ajayi during last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Cardiff. Ajayi suffered a hamstring injury in the second half and is expected to be out of action for approximately 4 months. McNair also injured his hamstring and he’ll be sidelined for over 2 months. As well as this, Kyle Bartley underwent a minor surgery and will be out for a further 4-6 weeks.
This leaves the Albion up shit creek without a paddle. The likelihood is Mason Holgate will deputise alongside Torbjorn Heggem, with Callum Styles filling in at left-back. This would likely make them a lot more vulnerable from set-piece situations, which is a major strength of Luton’s.
Irish defender Mark McGuinness should be relishing the prospect of finding a mismatch from a corner and could see a lot of joy on Friday Night if Rob Edwards looks to exploit a potential weakness in Corberan’s makeshift backline.
SkyBet are best priced 19.00 (18/1) that McGuinness breaks his Luton Town duck and gets his name on the scoresheet. He’s had 15 shots this season, all inside the penalty area and 13 of them have came with his noggin. The only downside is that Alfie Doughty, Luton’s regular set-piece taker is suspended for this one so let’s hope someone steps up in his absence and delivers a beauty for big Mark.
